Opening Reception (Sawyer Yards Art Alley)
October 21, 6-9pm
1502 Sawyer St. Houston, TX 77007
Join Sawyer Yards for Sculptures in Art Alley. The addition of sculptures are part of Phase 2 in the creation of Art Alley. Syd Moen, Erik Hagen, Trey Duvall and Bradley Brown will be creating sculptural installations that will be on view until fall of 2018.
My sculpture “The Bridge” is that of a virtual bridge, both literally and metaphorically. A panoramic view from a bridge overlooking buffalo bayou will be transformed via reflection onto polished stainless steel. Surrounding the core sculpture will be a woven steel fence to which the public will be invited to collaborate with me and connect with others by placing their own “love locks” on the structure. The goal of the project is to provide a spatial experience as the viewer moves around the artwork. The inclusion of the collaborative and interactive “love locks” fence is an opportunity to acknowledge the concept that love is a bridge to tolerance and unity.
My project “The Bridge” is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.

This collective exhibition is the work of Spring Street resident artists which reflects their own histories and backgrounds as these have influenced their art. Our focus is the artist’s journey into making art, and the memories embedded in the work as much as the aesthetics of the work itself. If art is a form of visually communicating ideas, it is important to understand the concepts and ideas being addressed by the artists. Some artists draw on early influences and life events, while others embrace changing technology. Hopefully, each visitor will reflect on their own histories and backgrounds as they view the work presented here.
